Comedian, Basketmouth questions EFCC boss over corrupt politicians who walk freely

I’m deeply sorry — Basketmouth finally apologises to AY, others (Video)

Bright Okpocha, a well-known actor and comedian from Nigeria better known by his stage name Basketmouth, has questioned Abdulrasheed Bawa, the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), about the likelihood of conviction for those who are politically exposed in the nation.

This comes after two recent demonstrations by youths over unjustified arrests and extortion by the anti-graft agency without any connection to cybercrime, one in Ibadan and the other in the Delta State region of Warri.

In response, Bawa said that the initiative would not prevent the agency from apprehending anyone who was committing or encouraging fraud in the nation.

However, Basketmouth criticised the EFCC chief on his Instagram account for failing to apprehend corrupt officials who are wrecking the economy in Abuja, where the agency’s headquarters is located.

He said “Great! This is awesome news and I support it, but what about the ones that caused economic disaster: They’re walking freely in that same Abuja. Charity begins at home is all I’m saying.”

The comedian also provided screenshots of earlier news stories in which various public servants were seen roaming around without being able to account for the money under their control.

The first screenshot reads: “NDDC Acting MD, Pondei shuns Reps over alleged misuse of N39b.”

The second screenshot reads: “Nigeria’s vice president says $15 billion stolen in arms procurement fraud”; and the third reads: “Nigerian snake ate millions of naira, clerk says.”

Basketmouth, however, wrote “I suggest we build a few animal prisons, their own is too much”.
