10 Million Nigerians Register with NDC 24 Hours After Peter Obi Defection

The South West Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso OK Movement, Dr. Adefolaseye Adebayo, has asserted that roughly 10 million Nigerians signed up with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) within 24 hours of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, joining the party.

This development follows the defection of Obi and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who on Sunday exited the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the NDC ahead of the forthcoming general elections, as reported.

The political shift has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape, with critics arguing that Obi’s presidential prospects may be weakening amid the party switch.

However, Adebayo, in an interview with Arise TV on Monday, pushed back against the narrative, emphasizing that Obi’s political base remains strong and nationally distributed. She noted that his appeal transcends regional boundaries, cutting across all six geo-political zones.

Adebayo stressed that Obi’s political relevance is rooted more in his personality, credibility, and leadership capacity than in party affiliation, a position she reinforced during the interview.

She said, “Mr Peter Obi has a lot of followership across Nigeria. You can’t say that Obi’s chances or the chance of the South East reduced drastically.

“24 hours after Peter Obi left ADC, 10 million Nigerians registered with NDC and that says a lot”.
