According to the Kaduna State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), bandits have killed about 10 teachers and kidnapped over 50 others in the State.
The revelation’s source, Ishaya Dauda, the Chairman of the ASUSS Kaduna State Chapter, encouraged Governor Nasir El-Rufai to use all available means to secure the release of all teachers and other victims who are still being held captive in various camps in the State.
He lamented that “more than 10 secondary school teachers were killed and over 50 others abducted from January till date in Kaduna and the abducted teachers are still in captivity” while briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday as part of activities to commemorate the 2022 World Teachers’ Day with the theme “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers.”
He asserts that the union is well aware of the insecurity endangering the collective existence of Kaduna State residents, particularly in the schools, and urges the State government to take prompt measures to eradicate the threat.
The union said that it is also aware of the State government’s efforts to enlist members of the Kaduna State Vigilante Service to protect the schools from terrorist attacks that continue unabatedly.
In order to lessen the suffering experienced by individuals who have retired from service, he praised Governor El-efforts Rufa’i’s to ensure fast payment of teachers’ wages and urged the governor to ensure prompt payment of retirees’ benefits.
Governor El-Rufai was urged to expedite the promotion of his constituents, which had been postponed till 2020. He noted that ASUSS, like all other trade unions, has the support of the Kaduna State Government.
In order to improve the welfare of its members in terms of hiring, promoting, and other benefits, he continued, ASUSS was collaborating with the office of the Head of Service, the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, the Kaduna Teachers’ Service Commission, and other pertinent parties.
