2026 Oscars: Nigeria Will Not Submit Any Film
Oscars — The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has confirmed that Nigeria will not be putting forward any entry for the International Feature Film category of the 2026 Academy Awards.
PulseNets learnt that the announcement was made on Monday through a statement by NOSC chairperson Stephanie Linus. She revealed that a call for entries had been opened in August, after which six films were obtained by the committee for review.
According to what was reported by the NOSC, members met over the weekend to deliberate on the submissions. In the end, the majority of the committee voted for “No Submission,” a decision that effectively closed the process for this year’s Oscars consideration.
Speaking on the decision, Stephanie Linus told PulseNets that
“Nigerian films have undoubtedly recorded major improvements and increasing awareness of the International Feature Film standards. However, there remains a gap in creative depth and technical intentionality required to boost their competitive strength on the global stage.”
