2027: I’ll Run as Presidential Candidate, Not VP — Peter Obi Declares

Peter Obi has clearly stated that he will contest the 2027 general elections as a presidential candidate, firmly ruling out any possibility of accepting a vice-presidential slot, PulseNets learnt.

The former Anambra State governor made this position known while addressing supporters at a campaign outing for African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates contesting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections. The rally was held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Obi, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures within the ADC’s growing national structure, stressed that his political ambition is focused solely on leading the party at the highest level.

Speaking at the event, he linked the AMAC election to his broader 2027 presidential ambition and urged party loyalists and residents to deliver victory for the ADC at the grassroots.

According to Obi, success in the council election would significantly strengthen his pathway to the presidency, noting that his involvement in future elections is as a principal contender, not a running mate.

“Support us in AMAC because it directly strengthens my journey. Your backing here is crucial. I am involved in the coming election as number one, not as an assistant or deputy. When I return, everything will become clearer. I assure you,” Obi said.

PulseNets reported that Obi’s remarks were widely interpreted by supporters as a clear rejection of any vice-presidential consideration ahead of 2027.

Members of the Obidient Movement, who form a strong base of his political following, have since intensified calls on the ADC leadership to present Obi as the party’s sole presidential flagbearer. Several supporters told PulseNets that settling for a vice-presidential role would undermine the movement’s momentum and electoral appeal.

Information obtained by PulseNets indicates that Obi’s supporters believe he remains the ADC’s most credible option to challenge the ruling establishment in the next general election.

However, the ADC is also accommodating other heavyweight politicians with presidential ambitions. Among them are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, both of whom are reportedly positioning themselves ahead of 2027.
