2027 Race Begins: Peter Obi Meets UK, EU Diplomats in Closed-Door Abuja Talks

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Wednesday held talks with senior foreign diplomats in Abuja, in what analysts interpret as early-stage political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The engagement, conducted behind closed doors, brought together the British High Commissioner to Nigeria alongside representatives from the European Union, Germany, Canada, and France. PulseNets learnt that the meeting took place over a private breakfast session within the Federal Capital Territory.

Obi later confirmed the interaction via his official X account, offering a brief insight into the discussions. According to him,

“Today in Abuja, I had a breakfast meeting with some diplomats that included, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria and his Colleagues from the European Union, Germany, Canada, and France. It was an enriching discussion on relationships.”

While the former Anambra State governor did not disclose full details, PulseNets reported that the timing of the meeting has attracted heightened political interest. Observers note that such diplomatic engagements often indicate preliminary positioning ahead of major electoral cycles.

PulseNets obtained that there has been a noticeable uptick in interactions between Nigerian political actors and members of the international community in recent months. These engagements typically centre on governance frameworks, economic reforms, and democratic consolidation.

Obi, a prominent contender in the 2023 presidential race, has continued to maintain a strong presence in national discourse. He has consistently addressed issues surrounding fiscal policy, public sector accountability, and leadership reforms, reinforcing his relevance in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
