2023: Foreign hackers attacking our database — INEC Chairman

Ogun INEC REC slumps, dies in Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has warned that foreign hackers have been trying to access the commission’s database in preparation for the general election in 2023.

At the National Conference of the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, with the topic “2023 General Elections; Judiciary and Sustainability of Nigeria’s Democracy,” Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, announced this on Thursday in Abuja.

Yakubu, who was represented by the deputy director of ICT, Dr. Lawrence Bayode, clarified that the assaults are not just coming from Nigeria but are coming from all over the world.

“We were looking at the system on Wednesday, 25th of January, and we were seeing that people were trying to come into the system from France, but we are also putting some things in place.

“You can not build a house without putting a door, burglary or window. We have done our best to ensure that our system is secured,” he said.

He went on to say that the backend, IReV, and the result viewing portal are all properly protected against attacks, according to Daily Trust.
