Erdogan wins Turkey Presidential Run Off, Blasts Rival

Turkey President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, aged 69, today won the re-election as the President.

He defeated the opposition candidate, Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the country’s presidential election.

YSK Chairman Ahmet Yener officially announced the election results, stating that Erdogan was elected as the new president with 52.14% of the votes

With this re-election, president Erdogan will lead his country for another 5 years in his third term as president, marking a significant milestone in the history of the country’s democracy.

Politics Nigeria gathered that Erdogan got 52.1 percent of the votes in the second round on Sunday, while Kilicdaroglu got 47.9 percent

More than 64.1 million Turkish citizens were registered to vote in the second round of the presidential elections, including over 1.92 million who earlier cast their ballots at overseas polling stations, at diplomatic missions and border crossings, until Saturday evening,

Erdogan has said in Ankara that the election result “has a place above our heads”, using a Turkish phrase to indicate respect for the result.

He added: “We are not the only winners. The winner is Turkey, the winner is our democracy.”

“We walked this road together. We walked day and night and you gave this duty to us again. God willing, we will continue to build and rejuvenate the ‘century of Turkey’ together.”
