An ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being interrogated at the zonal command office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ilorin, Kwara state.
Punch Newspaper identified the ally as former governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi.
According to a source, Fayemi arrived the EFCC facility at about 9:40 am on Thursday.
The source was quoted to have said:
” Fayemi arrived our Kwara command office at about 9:40 am today. Our operatives are currently grilling him over alleged misappropriation of N4bn.”
Another source who corroborated the report noted that the Fayemi is not the only governor on the EFCC’ list.
He added:
“I’m not sure whether he’d be released today or detained. However, he’s not the only former governor that’s currently being probed by the commission.”
The probe is said to be connected to the handling of funds during his tenure as governor of Ekiti state.
Fayemi, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), was governor of the state from 2018 to 2022. He handed over to Biodun Oyebanji after the latter won the governorship election in June 2022.
