Jonathan Reveals His Political Journey Is a Miracle
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described his rise through Nigeria’s political ladder as nothing short of a miracle, crediting every stage of his advancement to divine intervention.
He made the remark on Friday during the public presentation of a book written in honour of his former aide, Dr. Reuben Abati, who clocked 60. Jonathan’s reflections came as senior political figures, scholars, and journalists gathered to celebrate Abati’s contributions to national discourse.
Jonathan’s trajectory through public office — from his days as Bayelsa State deputy governor to governor, then Vice-President, and ultimately President — has long been a subject of national interest. PulseNets learnt that the former leader considers this path one that cannot be explained by political strategy alone.
In his words, “My political journey looks like a political miracle. Rising from deputy governor to becoming president of this country in less than four years was a miracle. Only God could have made that happen.”
The former president also expressed profound appreciation to Abati for documenting aspects of his political story in one of the newly unveiled works, titled How Goodluck Jonathan Became President. He commended Abati’s intellectual depth, style of writing, and analytical strength.

Jonathan noted that narratives written by others often carry deeper insight. He said, “I have always appreciated people who write about me because, truthfully, it can be difficult to write about yourself. When others write, the story carries more clarity and weight.”
Looking ahead, he signalled curiosity about revisiting the account of his political ascent, remarking, “I will be very interested to read how Goodluck Jonathan became president, told from cover to cover.”
