Obiano Is Alive: Former Anambra Governor Debunks Viral Death Rumour Through Aides
Reports circulating about the alleged death of former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, have been firmly dismissed by his former Commissioner for Information, Mr. C. Don Adinuba.
The speculation, which spread rapidly across Anambra’s media ecosystem, had triggered emotional reactions among some of Obiano’s longtime aides, many of whom described him as a humane leader whose legacy still resonates across the state.
But Adinuba, PulseNets learnt, countered the rumour with strong clarity, stressing that the former governor is alive, well, and in excellent physical condition.
In a statement obtained by PulseNets, Adinuba said:
“Certain media circles have been unsettled in the last few hours over an unfounded claim that former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has died in London.
There is absolutely no truth to this. Chief Obiano resides in Texas, USA — not London — and remains very much alive, in good health, and remarkably energetic for a man who just turned 70.”
He added:
“We appreciate the overwhelming concern shown by people from various parts of the world. His generosity, leadership values, and service record continue to stand firm.
The global outpouring of affection following this rumour demonstrates how deeply Chief Obiano is admired, nearly four years after leaving office to embrace a quieter private life abroad.”
Adinuba further noted that:
“At 70, Chief Obiano now joins the ranks of men like the Great Zik of Africa, whose rumoured deaths were proven to be completely baseless.”
Another close aide, Onyebuchi Okpala, also moved swiftly to dispel the speculation. In a Facebook post obtained by PulseNets, he wrote:
“My dear Anambra people, please ignore the false news circulating online.
His Excellency, Chief William Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano, is very much alive. Kindly disregard the fake death reports about our Principal and Boss, Akpokuedike Global. He is alive and well, and we pray for his continued good health and long life.”

Obiano, who governed Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, has since relocated to Houston, Texas. Before becoming governor, he worked as a senior executive at Fidelity Bank, and he hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area. He is currently facing trial before a Federal High Court over allegations of mismanaging N4 billion during his tenure.
