El-Rufai Says Nigerians Are Dumping APC, PDP for ADC Ahead of 2027, Predicts ‘230 Million Will Defeat 25 Governors’

A former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has insisted that the ongoing wave of political defections among state governors ahead of the 2027 general elections will not derail Nigerians from choosing leaders they truly believe in.

The declaration came on Wednesday during the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Contact and Mobilisation Office in Jos, where El-Rufai emphasised that while top political figures continue to switch camps, ordinary Nigerians are steadily embracing a new political direction.

PulseNets learnt that El-Rufai, addressing party stakeholders in Plateau State, asserted that although some PDP governors are crossing over to the APC, “ordinary Nigerians are quietly shifting their support to the ADC because they want genuine change.”

He maintained that the ADC has the capacity to reunify Plateau State and the entire federation if entrusted with power in the 2027 polls. According to him, Nigeria’s current challenges are deep but not irreversible, urging Plateau residents to keep faith with the party’s message of inclusion and renewal.

Sharing a personal reflection, El-Rufai said his connection to Plateau dates back decades.

“Over forty years ago, I used to come to Plateau every week because my fiancée—who later became my wife—served here in Jos. Even after our marriage, Jos became our weekend getaway. Sadly, what I see today is a far departure from the peaceful Plateau we once enjoyed.”

The former governor expressed optimism that purposeful leadership can restore the state’s historic harmony.

“With the right leadership at both state and national levels, Plateau can rise again. We can heal divisions across ethnic and religious lines and return this state to the true ‘Home of Peace and Tourism’ we grew up knowing. Our prayer is for the strength and wisdom to unite everyone,” he said.

El-Rufai told PulseNets that Nigerians are increasingly exhausted by the dominance of the APC and PDP, arguing that the country needs a fresh political direction.

“People across Nigeria are fed up with both APC and PDP. Many think APC will save Nigeria, but the truth is that everyday Nigerians are gravitating towards the ADC. While governors jump into APC, the masses are moving into ADC. By God’s grace, 230 million Nigerians will outweigh 25 governors,” he stated.

Reaffirming his confidence in the ADC going into 2027, he said:

“Nigerians have made up their minds. Come 2027, they will vote ADC. Our task now is to unify our structures, rally behind credible candidates, and promote policies that uplift every citizen. Each one of you must play your part. This is the only party that allocates 40% of leadership positions to young people and 35% to women. ADC is truly the party for the youth and women of Nigeria.”

In his remarks, the Plateau State ADC Coordinator, Hon. Jamilu Lawandi Datti, lamented the struggles confronting young people in the state, citing unemployment, insecurity, and limited access to education and healthcare. He appealed to the youth population to rally around the ADC as the platform capable of addressing their pressing concerns.
