Remi Tinubu Publicly Embarrasses Governor Adeleke, Threatens to Kill His Mic for Singing
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, stirred reactions on Sunday after interrupting Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during his goodwill remarks at her coronation as the Yeye Asiwaju Ile Oodua. The exchange, captured in a now-viral video, has drawn widespread debate over decorum, protocol, and constitutional boundaries.
PulseNets learnt that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, conferred the revered title on Mrs Tinubu during the 10th anniversary of his coronation. The honour was last held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the nationalist and anti-colonial icon, Obafemi Awolowo.
Governor Adeleke, while delivering his tribute, commended the First Lady for what he described as her sustained contributions to national development and her support for community-driven initiatives across Nigeria. He also applauded the Ooni’s “remarkable decade of transformative leadership.”
However, as he switched into singing Christian hymns mid-speech, the First Lady cut in sharply, telling him in Yoruba, “Mo ma pa mic yin,” translated as “I will switch off your microphone.”
PulseNets obtained a separate clip showing that only minutes earlier, Mrs Tinubu had walked up to the podium, signaling to the governor with five fingers to round off his remarks. “I’m giving you five minutes to finish your speech. The music is enough,” she said.
The exchange immediately set social media abuzz, with many Nigerians criticising the First Lady for what they viewed as an unnecessary intrusion on a sitting governor.
Reacting on X, a user identified as Chukwu Emeka (@Nnaneya) wrote: “Constitutionally, the governor is higher than the Ooni of Ife and can even dethrone the Ooni. He is also higher than the First Lady, who has no constitutional recognition. For her to address a governor like that is insulting. This is pure arrogance.”
Another user, @TomTom_149, posted: “This incident reflects the mess in our system. How can a First Lady with no legal authority embarrass a constituted authority in his own territory? I genuinely felt bad for the governor. Mrs Jagaban needs restraint.”
Similarly, @Afobaje_X commented: “Mrs Remi Tinubu is overbearing and domineering. Nigeria cannot progress with leaders who carry themselves like this. It’s sad.”

Echoing the sentiments, @realTobiAkinbo wrote: “Oluremi Tinubu was simply disrespectful. The governor was expressing joy, and she interrupted him?”
Despite the backlash, the Ooni expressed admiration for the First Lady, acknowledging her long-standing support. “She is the mother of the nation. Exactly 10 years ago, on the 7th of December 2015, she stood by me through thick and thin,” he said.
