We Will Not Mobilise Support for Peter Obi as VP Candidate — Obidient Movement
The Obidient Movement has cautioned that it will not rally its nationwide support base to back Mr Peter Obi as a vice-presidential running mate to any aspirant in the 2027 general elections, insisting that its focus remains solely on an Obi presidency.
In a statement dated Saturday, January 3, and obtained by PulseNets, the movement framed the Obi project as a collective national undertaking that transcends partisan calculations, describing it as a shared responsibility for Nigerians seeking credible leadership.
The group said it was compelled to clarify its position amid what it described as misinformation and deliberate propaganda following a recent media interview involving its National Coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, where remarks were allegedly misrepresented and facts distorted.

PulseNets learnt that the movement reiterated its ideological foundations, noting that its operations are anchored on democratic values aimed at promoting good governance through accountability, transparency, and principled leadership.
According to the statement, the Obidient Movement stressed that its mandate is unambiguous. “Without hesitation or ambiguity, the passion, ideals, and collective strength of the Obidient Movement are fully dedicated to the presidential ambition of Mr Peter Obi,” the group said. It added that the movement reserves the right to align with any political platform that reflects Obi’s character, principles, and leadership philosophy.
The movement further explained that its backing of the former Anambra State governor is rooted in a firm belief that he surpasses other leading contenders in key leadership metrics. “Our support is based on our conviction that Mr Peter Obi distinguishes himself through competence, integrity, compassion, vision, discipline, economic intelligence, democratic credibility, global standing, and a proven history of prudent leadership,” the statement noted.
Spoke to PulseNets sources within the movement also confirmed that it believes this conviction mirrors the sentiment of a significant majority of Nigerians, emphasising that its mobilisation efforts are directed exclusively toward Obi’s emergence as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“At this time, we are supporting him under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as he seeks its presidential ticket,” the movement stated. It added that it would respect the outcome of the ADC process if it remains transparent, credible, and fair. “Where the process is undermined, the Obidient Movement will respond collectively, lawfully, and democratically, in line with our core values,” the group warned.
The statement also underscored the movement’s flexibility regarding Obi’s political pathway, making clear that its allegiance is not tied to any single party. “Wherever Mr Peter Obi, acting within the bounds of the law and guided by conscience, chooses to pursue his presidential mandate, the Obidient Movement will stand with him,” it said, stressing that its loyalty lies with Obi’s vision for national renewal rather than political convenience.
Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful civic engagement, the movement insisted it would not dilute its standards in exchange for short-term political gains. “We will not sacrifice our principles or our insistence on credible leadership for expediency,” the statement declared.

Concluding, the Obidient Movement reflected on the sacrifices made by its members since 2023. “This movement has endured resistance, sacrifice, and sustained misrepresentation because of an honest belief in a better Nigeria. We will not be distracted, bullied, or manipulated by misinformation, hired propaganda, or partisan smear campaigns,” it said.
