Impeachment Threats: Fubara Politically Safe in APC — Jandor

The founder of the Lagos4Lagos movement, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has said Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains politically secure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite renewed impeachment threats from the state legislature, PulseNets learnt.

The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday commenced fresh impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, citing allegations of misconduct, a development that has reignited tensions in the state’s prolonged political crisis.

The latest impeachment move is widely linked to the unresolved power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, which has continued to shape Rivers politics since the governor assumed office.

Mr Adediran, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos during the 2023 general election, spoke after taking part in the APC’s ongoing e-registration exercise at Ward G, Irewe, in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Speaking to PulseNets, Jandor expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership would ensure stability in Rivers State and prevent the crisis from escalating into political chaos.

According to him, the APC, unlike the PDP, operates a firm leadership hierarchy and a functional dispute-resolution mechanism anchored by President Tinubu, which he believes would shield Governor Fubara from any destabilising outcome.

“When impeachment first came up under the PDP, I was genuinely afraid for him because that party lacks clear leadership and a dispute-resolution structure,” Adediran said.

“But now it is impeachment 2.0 under the APC, driven by APC lawmakers. I have absolutely no fear,” he added.

Emphasising the distinction between both parties, he noted that internal discipline and party supremacy remain core strengths of the ruling party.

“APC is not PDP. There is party supremacy, and there is a clearly defined leadership structure. Everyone knows where the buck stops,” he told PulseNets.

Mr Adediran further stated that President Tinubu would not allow the Rivers political crisis to spiral out of control, stressing that the president has both the authority and capacity to restore calm.

“The president will call everyone to order, and this matter will be resolved peacefully,” he said.

PulseNets obtained confirmation from Adediran that President Tinubu has already summoned both Governor Fubara and Minister Wike as part of ongoing efforts to manage the crisis.

He appealed to residents of Rivers State and members of the APC to remain calm, assuring them that the party’s leadership would ensure peace, stability, and continuity of governance in the oil-rich state.
