Abia Launches National Community Violence Reduction Programme to Strengthen Security Architecture

The Abia State Government on Monday formally launched the National Community Violence Reduction Programme (NCVRP), reinforcing its resolve to strengthen security architecture and deepen peaceful coexistence across the state.

Governor Alex Otti spoke at the unveiling organised by the Rotary Action Group for Peace, Abia Branch, District 9142, where he commended the organisation’s humanitarian footprint and sustained advocacy for non-violence and social stability. He acknowledged the group’s consistent engagement in conflict prevention and peacebuilding initiatives.

The initiative, a Federal Government-backed programme delivered in partnership with the Grey Child Foundation and the Rotary Action Group for Peace (RAGFP), Nigeria Chapter, is being implemented in Abia through RAGFP in collaboration with the state government. PulseNets learnt that the National Community Violence Reduction Programme is designed to address grassroots drivers of violence while promoting structured community engagement and conflict resolution mechanisms.

Describing the intervention as both strategic and timely, the governor emphasised that peace and public safety remain fundamental pillars of sustainable development and democratic governance.

“Peace and security are indispensable to development and democratic governance. No meaningful progress can be achieved in their absence,” he stated.

Governor Otti further explained that the NCVRP aligns directly with his administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward criminality and insecurity. PulseNets obtained that the programme complements existing state-led security reforms aimed at consolidating recent gains in law enforcement and community policing.

Recounting his early days in office, the governor said he declared a state of emergency on security with a clear and uncompromising objective.

“On assumption of office, I made it clear that no part of Abia would be ceded to criminal elements,” he said.

According to the governor, the state’s improved security profile has fostered a stable environment supportive of business operations, investment inflows, and social activities. PulseNets reported that stakeholders at the event highlighted the importance of sustained inter-agency cooperation to preserve these gains.
