Abia Lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh Dumps APGA, Set to Announce New Party
The member representing Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
His decision was conveyed in a handwritten letter addressed to the chairman of APGA in his ward, a development obtained by PulseNets.
In the correspondence, the Abia lawmaker made it clear that his resignation takes immediate effect.
“I respectfully submit my resignation from my membership of the party, APGA, effective immediately,” Ikwechegh stated in the undated letter.
PulseNets learned that Ikwechegh also expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership for the political platform and opportunities extended to him during his time as an Abia representative in the National Assembly.
“I appreciate the opportunity given to me to serve and contribute during my sojourn with the party. I wish the party continued progress and success in its future endeavours,” the lawmaker said.
While the federal lawmaker did not disclose the reasons behind his exit from APGA or outline his next political move, political observers in Abia State told PulseNets that the resignation is unfolding amid heightened political realignments in the state.
The development is coming at a time when Abia politics remains fluid. Governor Alex Otti, a key figure in the Labour Party, continues to consolidate his influence at the state level, even as there are ongoing speculations about possible efforts by national actors to court him into the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Analysts who spoke to PulseNets noted that Ikwechegh has, over time, openly admired the leadership approach of Governor Otti, fueling speculation that he could align with the Labour Party despite the internal challenges currently confronting the party at the national level.
As Abia State political dynamics evolve ahead of future electoral cycles, Ikwechegh’s resignation from APGA adds a fresh layer of intrigue to the unfolding power calculations within the state and at the federal level.
