A prominent journalist and the West African Regional Editor for The Conversation Africa, Adejuwon Soyinka, has been detained by the State Security Services (SSS).
Sources indicate that Mr Adejuwon was apprehended on Sunday around 5:40 a.m. at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport. He had just returned from the United Kingdom on a Virgin Atlantic flight.
The SSS has yet to release any details regarding the reasons behind Soyinka’s detention.
Attempts to contact him have so far been futile, as his phone remains switched off, and calls and messages have gone unanswered.
Mr Adejuwon, who previously served as the Pioneer Editor of the BBC Pidgin Service, is now the subject of widespread concern.
