Aminu Tambuwal Dumps PDP for ADC, Cites Deepening Leadership Crisis
The lawmaker representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Tambuwal, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The development was confirmed after Tambuwal announced his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and subsequent move to the ADC through a message shared on his social media platform on Wednesday, March 12, 2026.
In a photo post shared on X and obtained by PulseNets, the former Sokoto State governor disclosed that he had also formally notified his ward chairman of his resignation from the PDP in writing.
“Today, after deep reflection and consultations, I have formally resigned my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and I have communicated my resignation to my ward chairman in writing.”
Tambuwal described the PDP as an important part of his political journey, acknowledging that the platform provided opportunities that shaped his public service career.
“The PDP has been a significant part of my political journey, and I remain grateful for the opportunities it gave me to serve our nation, including as Speaker of the House of Representatives and as Governor of Sokoto State during my second term in office,” Tambuwal said.
However, the Sokoto South senator explained that his departure from the party was largely influenced by the prolonged leadership crisis and internal divisions that have continued to trouble the PDP.

Tambuwal further noted that the persistent disputes within the party had gradually eroded unity among its members and leadership structure, weakening the cohesion that once defined the opposition party.
“However, the persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership in the party. These developments have unfortunately weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party and have necessitated this decision.
“Consequently, I have today officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with my associates and supporters.
“I am convinced that this decision is guided by my belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.
“I remain fully committed to the service of our country and to the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity,” the former governor added.
