APC Says It Is Yet to Officially Welcome Fubara Because of Ramadan
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has clarified why Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has not yet been formally received into the ruling party, PulseNets learnt.
Speaking on TVC Politics, Yilwatda explained that the delay is a calculated move tied to strategic and religious considerations ahead of the Ramadan fast.
He told PulseNets that the APC deliberately chose to first conclude official receptions for governors from the northern region who recently defected to the party, citing the religious sensitivity of Ramadan in areas with a predominantly Muslim population.
According to Yilwatda, the party prioritised clearing its northern engagements because Ramadan is fast approaching, and political activities during the fasting period require tact and restraint.
“We decided to clear the North first because Ramadan is coming, and most of the people in the North are Muslims.
Ramadan is a very sensitive period, so we pleaded that we finish with the northern governors who defected before moving to the South,” he said.
The APC chairman stressed that the decision was purely strategic and anchored on respect for Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity, PulseNets reported.

He also dismissed speculations suggesting that the delay was linked to internal power struggles within the party or the influence of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
“It has nothing to do with Sim not having control. It is about strategy and understanding the sensitivities of each community,” Yilwatda added.
Yilwatda assured party members and supporters that Governor Fubara’s formal reception into the APC would take place at the appropriate time, once party activities in the North are fully concluded, PulseNets obtained.
