APC Support Group Warns Tinubu: Reshuffle Cabinet Now or Risk Losing 2027 Election

A political pressure bloc within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately overhaul his cabinet, warning that inaction could seriously undermine the ruling party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

PulseNets learnt that the group, operating under the banner of the APC League of Democrats, said decisive intervention was now required to shield the Tinubu administration from internal disloyalty, weak policy execution, and growing public dissatisfaction.

In a statement obtained by PulseNets and released in Abuja on Monday, the group argued that the existing cabinet structure no longer matches the scale or urgency of Nigeria’s economic realities, describing a ministerial reshuffle as long overdue.

According to the group, some appointees are allegedly undermining government objectives while outwardly presenting themselves as loyal members of the administration.

“We are experienced politicians and we understand the warning signs when officials begin to work against the direction of government while pretending to serve it. This is not new to us. We witnessed a similar pattern during the Goodluck Jonathan era. Some of us raised concerns early, but nothing was done, and the consequences were costly. We will not allow that mistake to repeat itself,” the group stated.

The APC League of Democrats specifically called for the immediate removal of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, citing what it described as persistent policy failures.

However, the group commended certain cabinet members for what it termed visible performance and delivery, noting that they could remain in office.

“Ministers who have shown seriousness and tangible results—such as the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi—can continue in their current roles. But many others must be reassigned to improve efficiency. As for the two ministers handling finance, Wale Edun and Doris Uzoka-Anite, they should be relieved immediately, in the interest of our party and national stability,” the statement added.

PulseNets reported that the group accused the finance ministers of disregarding a directive from President Tinubu to resolve the lingering dispute between the Federal Government and indigenous contractors.

It claimed that despite presidential instructions for the settlement of outstanding obligations, no meaningful action had been taken.

The group alleged that local contractors are owed close to ₦4 trillion for projects executed under the 2024 budget, many of which, it said, have already been completed and commissioned by the Federal Government.

Describing the situation as self-inflicted and economically damaging, the group warned that ongoing protests by contractors and civil society groups were tarnishing Nigeria’s image internationally and discouraging foreign investment.

“Any protest against a government, anywhere, automatically weakens its image and credibility before the international community. Investors are watching closely. No serious investor will commit resources to an economy perceived as stagnant and cash-starved,” the group warned.

The APC pressure group also expressed alarm over repeated demonstrations at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja.

It recalled that indigenous contractors had, on several occasions, blocked access to the ministry, while civil society organisations had reportedly joined calls for the dismissal of the finance ministers.

“Is it not troubling that local contractors have repeatedly shut down the entrance of the Federal Ministry of Finance—the nerve centre of the nation’s economy? We also read reports that nearly 1,000 civil society organisations, many with international affiliations, endorsed the protests and urged the President to remove these ministers to spare the country further embarrassment,” the statement read.

The group further referenced a protest by young lawyers who reportedly barricaded the ministry in solidarity with the contractors.

PulseNets learnt that the lawyers accused Dr Uzoka-Anite of selective disbursement of funds and favoritism—claims the group said must be thoroughly investigated.

“We also saw reports last Thursday where hundreds of young lawyers shut down the Finance Ministry, backing the contractors and accusing Uzoka-Anite of paying cronies and allies selectively. These allegations must be investigated, and appropriate action taken,” the group said.

According to the APC League of Democrats, the financial strain on contractors has deepened Nigeria’s economic difficulties.

It noted that many contractors borrowed heavily to execute government projects and are now on the brink of collapse due to unpaid invoices, with ripple effects across the wider economy.

“Beyond the pain and humiliation inflicted on local contractors—many of whom are facing severe bankruptcy from loans taken years ago—the wider economy is suffering. Money is not circulating, and this is affecting businesses, livelihoods, and daily economic life nationwide,” the statement added.

The group cautioned that if the crisis persists, it could spill over into the political arena and erode APC support ahead of the next election cycle.

“What we will not accept is a situation where this negligence damages the APC’s chances in 2027. We will not allow internal sabotage to recreate the mistakes that shaped past elections. The President must act now and respond to these patriotic concerns before it becomes too late,” the group warned.

PulseNets reported that the Association of Indigenous Contractors of Nigeria recently launched a sustained protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja over unpaid contract sums.

During the protest, demonstrators reportedly blocked the ministry’s main entrance, preventing the Minister of State for Finance from accessing her office.

The contractors accused the finance ministers of refusing to release funds for completed projects despite presidential directives and alleged interventions by the National Assembly.
