Yenagoa – Chief Edward Irigha-Brigidi, the member representing Nembe Constituency 2 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has been released following an extensive search conducted by security operatives at his residence in Yenagoa and Nembe. The search was conducted in connection with allegations of illegal possession of firearms leveled against the lawmaker.

The security operatives, believed to be from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, carried out the operation based on a petition filed by concerned individuals who accused Chief Edward Irigha-Brigidi of possessing firearms without proper authorization.

During the search, law enforcement officials meticulously combed through the lawmaker’s premises, including his residence in Yenagoa and his constituency office in Nembe. The operation lasted several hours as security personnel thoroughly inspected the premises for any evidence of illegal firearms.

After completing the search, the security operatives did not find any firearms or other illegal items in the lawmaker’s possession. Consequently, Chief Edward Irigha-Brigidi was released from custody.

Upon his release, Chief Edward Irigha-Brigidi expressed his gratitude to the Bayelsa State government and the law enforcement agencies involved for their professionalism during the search operation. He also maintained his innocence, stating that the allegations against him were false and politically motivated.

The Bayelsa State Police Command, through its spokesperson, confirmed the search operation but declined to provide further details. The command assured the public that investigations into the allegations would continue to ensure a thorough and unbiased examination of the case.
