Two people were reportedly killed by armed attackers at the Abdulsalam Abubakar General Hospital in Gulu, Lapai Local Government Area, Niger State.

They also kidnapped over ten people, including a hospital doctor and a pharmacist.

According to PulseNets, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, at 2 a.m.

One of those deceased was claimed to be Ya-Tachi, a retired medical worker who lived right across the street from the hospital.

It was learned that the bandits stormed the hospital in huge numbers, shooting randomly during their operation with no interference from security officers or local vigilantes.

Zakari Nda, a resident of the region, told our correspondent over the phone that the gunmen launched attacks on the hospital, killing two people.

“They arrived in large numbers and were shooting sporadically, which sent fears into the people during the period of their operation.

“At the end of the operation, many people were abducted and some wounded,” he stated.

He also urged the Niger State administration and security forces to take action to put a halt to the ongoing attacks on communities.

This is the fourth time in recent years that kidnappers have targeted different communities in the area.

The incident has heightened tensions among the locals, especially given the absence of security agents and local vigilantes during the attack.

Attempts to obtain a response from the State Police command, however, were futile because the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
