The Ijaw Youth Council has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the amended Electoral Act into law.
The Information Officer of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC Western Zone, Comrade Lugard Izuokumor, made the commendation in a chat with pressmen in Warri, Delta State.
He noted that there have been a lot of challenges in the conduct of elections in the country.
Izuokumor said the amended electoral act should be recognized because it will serve as a legal framework and a prerequisite for credible, free and fair elections.
“They should choose someone with integrity and proven capacity. They should choose a pan-Deltan. They should shun all forms of social vices and thuggery,” he said.
He urged politicians in the state not to talk or discuss zoning with regards to the 2023 elections.
While noting that Delta State is a “multicultural state”, he said that political arrangements should be made in the interests of fairness, equity and peace.
He said what the state needs is a visionary governor that will continue to compliment the achievements of the present administration and not zoning as it’s being discussed.
He however urged the incoming governor to have a plan for the aggressive development of the state.
He also appealed to politicians to always ensure they’re involved in things that will unite and put the country on the path of progress and development.
Izuokumor also commended the Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa for the peace in the state.
He said there cannot be any meaningful economic development in the absence of peace.
He also appealed to the governor to ensure that the Ayakoromo bridge is completed as well as ensure adequate funding in the school of marine technology in Burutu.
