Diri Plotting to Frame Sylva at EFCC — APC

Bayelsa Guber: Diri, INEC, PDP ask Supreme Court to dismiss Sylva’s appeal

Yenagoa — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has accused Governor Douye Diri of plotting to frame the APC’s governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a press release issued on Monday, the APC alleged that Diri is pressuring EFCC officials to initiate arrest and prosecution against Sylva on trumped-up charges related to his time as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

The APC claimed that Diri’s motives are to distract and dissuade Sylva from pursuing his petition at the state governorship election tribunal challenging Diri’s victory in the November 11, 2023 election.

APC Publicity Secretary Doifie Buokoribo stated, “We are aware of Senator Diri’s devious activities at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) aimed at sponsoring invented petitions against Sylva, and the pressure he is mounting on officials of the commission to initiate arrest and prosecution against him on trumped up charges, particularly, bordering on his tour of duty as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.”

The APC further asserted that Diri’s actions are an attempt to hinder the former governor’s chance to pursue his petition at the tribunal, acknowledging Diri’s distrust in the judiciary and his preference for self-help tactics.

“APC would like to use this medium to warn Diri and PDP to desist from their conspiratorial activities against Sylva at the EFCC. We also wish to advise the EFCC to resist any temptation to get entangled in the political chicanery of the sinking governor and his party,” Buokoribo concluded.
