Nigerian award-winning hip-hop artist, David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has strongly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), labeling it as Nigeria’s most dangerous institution.
PulseNets learned that in a series of posts made on X on Saturday, September 21, the singer found himself at odds with the police, discouraging voters from leaving their polling stations after casting their votes.
Davido’s reaction followed a video featuring Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, who urged voters to go home after voting during the ongoing Edo governorship election.
Mba, in an interview with Channels TV, had announced a vehicular movement restriction from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. He also emphasized that, “If you’re not accredited to participate in the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets. Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty.”
Reacting to this, Davido posted on X, “Loooooooool, go where???”
PulseNets reported that Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the Delta State Police, urged the singer to lead by example. Edafe responded, “Celeb like you should set a good example. Try dey calm down @davido.”
Further expressing his thoughts on the matter, Davido, in another post, explained that his passion for the outcome of the Edo elections stems from his personal connection, as his late mother hailed from the state.

He recalled how, in the 2022 Osun governorship election, it took multiple efforts, public outcry, and support from Nigerians to witness any improvement in the electoral process under INEC’s supervision.
Davido responded to critics saying, “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election… but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha… @inecnigeria shame on you. I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us,” the singer posted.
