EFCC Arrests 31 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Abuja Cybercrime Academy Raid
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 31 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Abuja.
The arrests were carried out on Thursday following a coordinated sting operation targeting a suspected cybercrime training facility located in Becki Estate, Karu, within the Federal Capital Territory, PulseNets learnt.
According to details obtained by PulseNets, the group comprises two alleged masterminds alongside multiple trainees, who were reportedly undergoing structured tutorials in internet fraud at the time of the operation.
PulseNets reported that several items were recovered from the premises, including mobile phones, 18 laptop computers, and additional electronic gadgets. Investigators also revealed that some of the recruits had been lured from Benue State under the pretense of legitimate employment opportunities.
Sources who spoke to PulseNets disclosed that upon arrival, the recruits were equipped with communication devices, computers, and specialized software allegedly used to train them in cyber fraud activities.
Further findings indicated that the trainees were held within the facility under strict confinement, with limited freedom of movement. Their mobile phones were reportedly confiscated to restrict any external communication, PulseNets learnt.
