EFCC: Go and face your probe, Attorney-General to Yahaya Bello

Attorney-General Urges Yahaya Bello to Cooperate with EFCC Probe

In a stern message, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has called upon former Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, to promptly present himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation.

In a statement issued, the AGF highlighted the imperative for cooperation with law enforcement agencies in matters of investigation, regardless of one’s status or position. He emphasized that the EFCC possesses the legal authority to summon individuals for questioning, and obstructing such processes only undermines the rule of law and exacerbates the situation.

The AGF condemned any attempts to impede the EFCC’s efforts in carrying out its statutory duties, emphasizing that public officials, who themselves benefit from the protection of law enforcement, should not resort to obstructive tactics. He stressed that evading the law only worsens the situation and tarnishes the image of the country on the international stage.

Encouraging individuals summoned by the EFCC or any other agency to respond to such invitations with dignity and respect, the AGF urged against resorting to self-help or evasion tactics. Instead, he emphasized the importance of adhering to legal processes and cooperating with authorities, fostering transparency and accountability in governance.
