The Federal Government has secured and distributed 64 compressed natural gas, CNG buses, each with a 100-seat capacity. These buses were officially handed over to representatives of organized labour and student union leaders in Abuja on Sunday, during a brief ceremony held at the State House Conference Centre.
In addition to the buses, the presidency made available more than 400 CNG conversion kits, which were provided to private-sector transporters across four states. This initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to reduce public transportation costs, particularly in light of the fuel subsidy removal.
PulseNets reported that, in response to widespread public dissatisfaction with rising transportation costs, the presidency has remained focused on promoting the shift to CNG as a more affordable energy alternative for motorists. Many Nigerians have expressed concerns over the removal of fuel subsidies, prompting the government to push for CNG conversion to help alleviate the burden.

Organized labour groups, since the subsidy removal, have consistently urged the Tinubu-led administration to implement palliative measures, including the introduction of more CNG vehicles to ease the financial pressure on commuters.
