Port Harcourt experienced a tragic fire incident on December 21, 2024, at Oakview Estate, Gbalajam, Woji. The blaze left dozens of residents homeless and caused the destruction of properties valued at millions of naira.
The fire reportedly ignited in the hot afternoon and rapidly consumed several homes, fueled by strong winds and the abundance of flammable materials within the estate. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, but the damage was catastrophic, with entire families losing their homes and belongings to the inferno.
PulseNets learned that efforts by local residents to contain the blaze proved futile as the fire spread uncontrollably before the arrival of the Rivers State Fire Service. Eyewitnesses told PulseNets that firefighters arrived long after the fire had engulfed most of the buildings.
One distraught resident, whose property was entirely consumed by the fire, spoke to PulseNets, saying, “We called the fire service immediately, but they took too long to come. By the time they arrived, everything was gone.”
