Christian Genocide: Tinubu Meets Sultan of Sokoto in Abuja as Interfaith Unity Talks Intensify
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday hosted the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what observers considered a strategic engagement at a sensitive moment for national cohesion.
The Sultan, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), held a closed-door discussion with the President. While the finer details were not disclosed, information PulseNets learnt from senior aides suggests the conversation centred on deepening interfaith cooperation and reinforcing national stability.
The high-level visit came just days after Tinubu welcomed the Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, in a similar outreach aimed at strengthening religious harmony across the country — a move analysts view as part of the administration’s broader peace-building strategy.
According to sources who spoke to PulseNets, the meeting also followed heightened reactions to recent remarks attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump, who allegedly threatened action against Nigeria over claims of anti-Christian attacks. The Presidency was said to be taking steps to manage both domestic and international perceptions surrounding religious freedom in the country.

After the private talks, the Sultan joined President Tinubu for the Juma’at prayer at the State House Mosque. In his sermon, Imam Abdulwaheed Abubakar urged citizens to remain committed to peace, stressing that “peace is not optional — it is the foundation upon which individual success and national progress are built.”
He appealed to Nigerians to support ongoing security reforms, noting that “a nation can only grow when its people choose unity over division.”
