Osun State’s Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared that his administration will not halt any of the initiatives started by the state’s previous administration under Adegboyega Oyetola.
In addition to promising to keep the relationship between the Executive and the Legislature cordial in order to advance the state, Governor Adeleke expressed his willingness to make sure that everything required to ensure the smooth operation of the Osun State House of Assembly is promptly taken care of.
When the governor paid a courtesy visit to the Osun State House of Assembly on Monday to ask for the legislators’ help in advancing the state, he made this known.
He emphasised that good governance is a continuum and urged everyone to support his administration, saying that now that the election has passed and the state is in need of it. His administration is prepared to deliver this.
“Now that election is over, I want everyone to join me to move the state forward; government cannot do it alone. For we to have an enviable state, everyone must be ready to play their part for the state to move forward.
“I promise that my administration will not cheat anyone; it will be an all-inclusive government where everybody will be happy and peace will reign supremely in the state,” he said.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye, promised earlier in his welcome speech that the Assembly will do everything possible to support the government in accordance with international best practises.
Owoeye also revealed that disagreements with the Executive may only be founded on legal facts, not personal opinions.
The Speaker continued by saying that in order for the legislative and executive branches of government to interact effectively and free of rumours and false information, they must improve their communication routes.
He promised that under his leadership, the 7th Assembly will not be swayed by party loyalties and that it is the responsibility of the Assembly to rise above party politics and bring the benefits of democracy to the good people of Osun.
The thoughts and decisions of the legislature, he continued, are crucial in all matters of state because it is a revered and respected institution around the globe.
The speaker of the Osun House of Assembly asked the governor to preserve the rule of law and the fundamentals of a fair trial since any departure from them could cause chaos and disaster in the state.
Following his inauguration on Sunday, November 27, 2022, the Speaker of the Osun Assembly had previously paid the governor a visit. The governor made a commitment to work with the state legislature at the meeting to advance the state.
Political observers had foreseen a conflict between the two branches of government in the state as a result of the governor’s executive orders, which included a directive to change the name “State of Osun” back to “Osun State.”
Additionally, the edict aimed to rename Osun from “State of the Virtuous” to “State of the Living Spring.”
The Osun Assembly had objected to the ruling, pointing out that the name and appellation of the state were determined by a legislative procedure.
The governor’s order for the top civil servant to assume charge of local government matters was followed by the Assembly, which preferred the status quo to continue.
