IGP condemns increased attacks on Police formations in Nigeria

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has condemned the increasing spate of attacks on police formations in some states of the federation.

The IG was speaking on Tuesday in Lokoja during a sensitization campaign on the Police Public Complaint Committee (PPCC) organised by the Ministry of Police Affairs for the North Central zone.

Baba charged officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to redouble their efforts in providing adequate security of life and property to Nigerians and solicited the support and cooperation of the citizens to achieve the feat.

He noted that the essence of the sensitization campaign is to enable the stakeholders interact to resolve areas of difference that will enhance the productivity of the Police Officers in carrying out their duties diligently without infringing on the rights of the citizens.

Usman Alkali Baba who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) zone eight (8) Edeh Ayuba, said the Police Force is the creation of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, saddled with the responsibility of protecting and providing adequate security for the people of the country.

He commended the Minister of Police Affairs Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi for creating a platform through which the sensitization campaign can effectively reach the stakeholders across the country.

The IG, however, lamented the recent mayhem unleashed on some police officers in some states, noting that the sensitization campaign programme will put an end to such attacks.

He charged officers and men of the force to always discharge their duties within the ambits of the law to protect the image of the force.

The AIG who delivered the speech of the Inspector General, said many Nigerians are ignorant of the law.

He appealed to them to acquaint themselves with the necessary law in order not to be arrested by the police.
