I’m not afraid of EFCC; I have nothing to hide: Gov Obaseki

Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has expressed willingness to answer the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if invited for any investigation regarding activities of his administration.

“I’m not afraid of the EFCC,” Mr Obaseki declared during the EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session in Abuja on Thursday.

Mr Obaseki, whose tenure would end as a two-term governor on November 12, insisted he had nothing to hide and would hand over himself to the anti-graft agency.

“Why should I be? What is important is focus. I came into office and ignored the noise, concentrating on what I felt was important, and today, you can see the results. If the EFCC calls on me, I will hand myself over; I have nothing to hide,” Mr Obaseki noted.

His statement came amid the fraud charges against former Kogi Governor Yahyah Bello, who ignored EFCC invitations, and the arrest of Delta former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over the alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion.

Meanwhile, Mr Obaseki, during the event, highlighted his administration’s major milestones, especially in the education sector.

The governor also lamented the existential challenges bedeviling Nigerians, urging the APC-led federal government to shift focus and do the needful.

“It is to pay attention to the opposition’s unnecessary and silly petitions. What matters is focusing on our people and making Nigeria better. The suffering is too much. We, who are privileged, should focus on making a positive impact, not on side issues like vendetta,” Mr Obaseki added.
