Jonathan Urges Leaders to Prioritise Citizens’ Welfare and Embrace People-Centred Governance in 2026
Nigerian leaders have been urged to prioritise citizens’ welfare and embrace people-centred governance as the nation looks towards 2026.
Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, in a New Year message obtained by PulseNets through his Media Assistant, Wealth Dickson Ominabo, called for leadership that places the interests of Nigerians at its core.
Jonathan highlighted that unity, shared responsibility, and integrity are vital for securing the country’s future, especially amid ongoing economic challenges and persistent security concerns.
Reflecting on the past year, he acknowledged the struggles faced by many Nigerians, noting that economic pressures and insecurity tested the nation’s resilience.
“The period behind us has not been without its trials — challenges that have tested our resilience and, for many families, brought hardship and loss,” Jonathan told PulseNets.
Despite these difficulties, the former president commended Nigerians for their courage and perseverance, describing their solidarity as one of the nation’s strongest assets.
Looking ahead, Jonathan urged both citizens and government officials to recommit to national ideals, emphasising that genuine patriotism must be expressed through service, humility, and integrity.

“Leadership at all levels must be anchored in service, guided by humility and a sincere commitment to the welfare of the people,” he spoke to PulseNets.
He concluded by wishing Nigerians a year filled with peace and fulfilment while praying for continued progress toward unity, justice, and shared prosperity.
