“Jorge Messi, the father of Lionel Andrés Messi, died last night at 10 p.m. in a clinic in the city of Rosario, Argentina” according to information obtained by Infobae.

The reported death comes shortly after an emotional moment involving Lionel Messi during Argentina’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner was reduced to tears after scoring his first goal against Algeria.

Speaking after the match, Messi made it clear that his emotional reaction was not connected to football.

The Messi family had previously confirmed that Jorge was dealing with a health condition and undergoing medical treatment, while urging the public and media to respect the family’s privacy.
