Labour minister to Nigerians: “Providing jobs not our mandate”

Labour Minister Clarifies Job Creation Responsibility at Abuja Event

PulseNets has learned that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, clarified that his ministry is not directly responsible for creating jobs.

Speaking during the annual conference of the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja on Thursday, the minister outlined the ministry’s mandate and role in addressing employment issues.

Dingyadi, speaking to PulseNets, acknowledged the pressing challenges posed by Nigeria’s large youth population. However, he emphasized that the ministry’s primary role is to create an enabling environment for job creation, not to provide direct employment.

“You will agree with me that the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment is never to give employment to people. Our role is to foster job creation through strategic policies and investments,” Dingyadi stated.

The minister further highlighted the government’s focus on economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He cited the recently negotiated minimum wage and ongoing infrastructural and human capital development projects as examples of the administration’s commitment to improving the economy.

In a related development, PulseNets learnt from Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, that the Tinubu administration’s reforms are already showing signs of progress despite current economic challenges.

“Every economic reform comes with excruciating pain, but the path chosen will lead us to the desired destination,” Dare told PulseNets. He described the administration’s approach as one that focuses on long-term solutions over temporary relief and urged Nigerians to remain patient and trust the process.

PulseNets reports that both officials reiterated the administration’s dedication to tackling Nigeria’s economic challenges through sustainable policies aimed at fostering growth and development.
