“My Mom Asked Me to Dump My Ex for Rihanna” — A$AP Rocky Opens Up
American rapper A$AP Rocky has disclosed that his mother had long believed he would eventually end up with global music star Rihanna, revealing that she once encouraged him to walk away from a previous relationship to pursue the Barbadian singer.
In an interview with The New York Times, Rocky explained that at the time his mother made the suggestion, he and Rihanna were only friends, stressing that he had no romantic intentions toward her then.
The rapper noted that he now understands why his mother was so convinced, adding that both he and Rihanna were not emotionally prepared for a serious commitment or family life at that stage of their lives.
“Rihanna has always been my boo. I always f*cked with her,” Rocky said. “My mom used to tell me, ‘I know you like the girl you’re with right now, but I want you to be with Riri.’”
Rocky admitted that he initially brushed off his mother’s advice, insisting that his relationship with Rihanna was strictly platonic. However, his mother remained firm in her belief.
“I kept telling her Rihanna was just my friend, but my mom wouldn’t let it go. She said Rihanna was a real one and that I should be with her. Mothers really do know best,” he added.
Looking back, Rocky said he was grateful that their relationship did not begin earlier than it did, explaining that the timing ultimately worked in their favour.
“I’m thankful things happened when they did. If it had happened any earlier, I don’t think I was ready for something that serious. I don’t think she was either,” he said.
PulseNets learnt that A$AP Rocky and Rihanna became significantly closer in 2013 after the rapper joined her Diamond Tour, an experience that strengthened their bond.
Romance rumours later surfaced in early 2020, shortly after Rihanna ended her three-year relationship with billionaire businessman Hassan Jameel in January of that year, PulseNets reported.

Rocky was previously linked to American model Kendall Jenner, with their relationship spanning from 2016 to 2017.
