Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Accuses Akpabio, Yahaya Bello of Power Abuse as Court Strikes Out Charges

Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, of abusing their positions to settle personal scores and intimidate innocent Nigerians.

The senator made the allegation on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja shortly after the Federal Government formally withdrew cybercrime-related charges filed against her. PulseNets learnt that the case was struck out by Justice Mohammed Umar following a notice of discontinuance submitted by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).

Speaking to journalists after the court proceedings, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that the withdrawal of the charges validated her long-held position that the case was politically motivated and malicious in intent.

According to her, “In life, there are moments that truly test one’s faith, and I must sincerely appreciate the good people of Nigeria, especially my constituents in Kogi Central, for standing firmly with me throughout this ordeal.”

She further stated that the collapse of the case exposed what she described as the misuse of power by powerful political figures. “The withdrawal of these two Federal Government cases against me clearly confirms that they were maliciously instigated by two individuals — Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Governor Yahaya Bello — who have consistently misused power to witch-hunt an innocent person, which is me,” she said.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, however, reserved praise for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that his intervention played a decisive role in ending the legal battle. PulseNets obtained that the senator acknowledged the President’s willingness to act after being briefed on the facts of the matter.

She said, “I want to sincerely appreciate President Tinubu. Once he was properly briefed on the truth, he gave the directive for the discontinuance of the two federal cases against me.”

Expressing relief and renewed confidence in the justice system, the lawmaker added that the outcome reaffirmed her belief in accountability and fairness in Nigeria. “I have always believed that Nigeria is a land of possibilities, where truth eventually prevails. Today, I feel vindicated and can now return fully to my legislative duties,” she told PulseNets.
