National Convention: APC Replaces Uzodimma with Masari as Chairman of Central Coordination Committee

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has carried out a swift reconstitution of its 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, appointing former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari as chairman in place of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The decision was confirmed in a statement signed by APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru. The party explained that the adjustment followed wide-ranging consultations involving the national leadership and critical stakeholders. Governor Uzodimma, who was named chairman only days earlier, has now been reassigned to serve as treasurer of the committee, PulseNets reported.

The Central Coordination Committee is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and logistics of the APC National Convention scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026. PulseNets learned that the committee’s membership has been expanded from 73 to 90 to allow for broader participation and representation of party interests across the country.

Among those newly inducted into the committee is Senator Barry Mpigi from Rivers State, alongside several other prominent party figures. Party sources told PulseNets that the expansion and leadership changes were informed by zoning considerations and strategic necessities ahead of the convention, which will culminate in the election of a new National Working Committee (NWC).

Under the reconstituted leadership structure, the committee is now chaired by Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Katsina State. Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, a former Senate President, will serve as Vice Chairman I, while Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, takes the position of Vice Chairman II. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma assumes the role of treasurer, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni retains his position as secretary.

The reshuffle comes barely days after the APC initially unveiled the 73-member committee on February 3, 2026, with Uzodimma as chairman. The speed of the reconstitution has triggered conversations within party circles on the need to balance regional interests, manage internal dynamics, and guarantee a seamless convention process, PulseNets learned.

The party’s National Convention will be preceded by a series of congresses nationwide, including ward congresses on February 18, local government congresses on February 20, state congresses on March 7, and zonal congresses on March 21, in line with the APC’s earlier timetable.

The APC also indicated that specialised sub-committees will be constituted and announced in due course to handle specific aspects of the convention. The gathering is expected to serve as a critical platform for the ruling party to consolidate its internal structure ahead of future electoral cycles.

Party insiders told PulseNets that the latest development reflects ongoing efforts by the APC to promote inclusivity, strategic alignment, and organisational stability as it prepares for its major national convention next month.
