Ned Nwoko Denies Pursuing Regina Daniels, Says Her Mother Brought Her for Marriage
The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, has dismissed claims that he pursued his estranged wife, popular Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, for marriage.
The lawmaker’s reaction comes amid renewed public debate and widespread criticism surrounding his six-year union with the actress.
Two weeks ago, Regina Daniels had publicly accused Nwoko of domestic violence, declaring that she was no longer interested in continuing their marriage. In a swift response, the Senator alleged that the actress was struggling with substance abuse, stressing that she must be taken to a rehabilitation center for proper treatment.
The messy public exchange has drawn massive attention online, with many Nigerians—including prominent celebrities and activists—criticizing Senator Ned Nwoko over claims that he married Regina when she was just 17 years old. Several commentators even called for his resignation from the Senate.
However, in a new statement obtained by PulseNets from his Communication and Technical Action Team, the Delta North lawmaker addressed the ongoing controversy, insisting that he never approached the actress for marriage.
According to him, Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, was the one who introduced and brought her daughter to him for marriage.
“For clarity, Regina Daniels was born on October 10, 2000. If she has been married to me for six years, that means she got married at 19, not 17,” the Senator explained.
“The public witnessed her family formally giving her away in marriage. There were witnesses to the fact that her mother personally brought her to me. I never went after her,” he added.
