President Muhammadu Buhari met with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele a few hours after the Supreme Court blocked the CBN from enforcing the February 10 deadline for the continued use of obsolete naira notes.
According to PulseNets, a unanimous decision by a seven-member Supreme Court bench chaired by Justice John Okoro on Wednesday decided that the previous naira notes continue to be in use even beyond the new deadline.
The development came after the Kogi, Kaduna, and Zamfara state governments filed an ex parte lawsuit on Tuesday.
The Federal Government and the CBN were also ordered by the Supreme Court to suspend the deadline until the outcome of the hearing on February 15 was known.
The conclusion of the meeting is yet unknown, but according to Channels TV, the visit by the head of the top bank is related to the Supreme Court’s decision.
