The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) and six others at Nasko town in Magama Local Government Area of the state during a fierce gun battle with armed bandits.
The incident occurred in the council Tuesday.
The Commissioner of Police, in the state, CP, Mr Bala Kuryas made the confirmation in Minna, saying some of the bandits were killed, while others escaped with gunshot injuries
According to him, the gunmen stormed the divisional police station in Nasko on motorcycles and two officers of the division were killed in the ensuing battle.
Kuryas explained that aside from the security personnel, four members of a vigilante group in the area also lost their lives during an exchange of gunfire.
The Commissioner said presently a detachment of police tactical squad and military personnel had been dispatched to the area to track down the criminals.
“The Area Commander, Kotangora immediately drafted reinforcements with the military personnel to the area to forestall breakdown of law and order,” the commissioner explained.
He called on residents, especially those in Magama council to assist the security personnel drafted to the area with reliable information that could help in apprehending the perpetrators.
Kuryassaid, “we are all out to deal with any person or group of people undermining the peaceful atmosphere of our state.”
