The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has suspended the nationwide enforcement of its Tinted Glass Permit policy after an interim court order restrained the action, PulseNets learnt.

The Force had earlier announced on 15 December 2025 that enforcement would recommence on 2 January 2026, explaining that the measure was part of its constitutional mandate to ensure public safety and internal security across the country.

However, PulseNets obtained details showing that the police were subsequently served with an interim order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on 17 December 2025, which restrained the NPF from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or until the order is set aside.

Confirming the development on Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, told PulseNets that the police had entered an appearance in the matter, filed preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.

According to him, the court has adjourned the case to 20 January 2026 for further proceedings.

In an official statement, the Force clarified its position on compliance with the ruling. The statement noted: “In line with the existing court order, the Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide until the court delivers its decision.”

It further quoted the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, as reiterating the institution’s commitment to legality and public safety. “The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its duty to uphold the rule of law while ensuring the protection of lives and property across the federation,” the statement said.

The police leadership also emphasised that security operations would continue through lawful and intelligence-led approaches. “The Force will sustain the use of intelligence-driven and lawful strategies to address prevailing security challenges and guarantee public safety nationwide,” the statement added.

The NPF assured Nigerians that additional updates and clear operational guidance would be issued after the court reaches a determination, stressing that all actions would be guided by the broader interest of public order and national security.
