Obasanjo, Jonathan to Inaugurate National Assembly Christian Chapel in Abuja
Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan will inaugurate the National Assembly Christian Chapel in Abuja on March 1, PulseNets learnt.
Details of the inauguration were contained in a statement PulseNets obtained on Wednesday, co-signed by the President of the Christian Legislators Fellowship, Senator Binus Yaroe of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamawa State, and the Secretary, Rep. Bamidele Salam of the Peoples Democratic Party, Osun State.
PulseNets learnt that former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, will attend the inauguration and dedication of the 750-capacity National Assembly chapel.
Senior Christian leaders are also expected at the event. PulseNets gathered that they include the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh; the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Bishop Francis Oke; and Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
The statement obtained by PulseNets read, “The dedication of the chapel represents the beginning of a new chapter in strengthening spiritual fellowship among Christian legislators and staff.
“The event, which is expected to attract eminent Nigerians from across the country, will mark a significant milestone for the Christian community within the National Assembly.
“The ceremony will bring together prominent Christian leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries in a moment of thanksgiving and spiritual reflection.”
PulseNets further learnt that the non-denominational chapel project was initiated in May 2019 during the tenure of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara.

According to the statement PulseNets reported, the chapel was conceived as a dedicated place of worship, fellowship, and prayer for Christian lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly in Abuja.
It added that the National Assembly Christian Chapel will function as a spiritual hub, designed to foster unity, encourage moral reflection, and provide faith-based support within Nigeria’s legislative community.
