Osimhen and Oshoala Shine at CAF Awards as Nigeria Celebrates Historic Night

Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala stole the show at the CAF Awards 2023 in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday night, December 11th, 2023.

Osimhen, the prolific Nigerian striker, etched his name in history by becoming the first Nigerian to win the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999. He faced stiff competition from Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi and Egyptian star Mohammed Salah, but ultimately emerged victorious thanks to his stellar performances for Napoli and the Super Eagles.

Oshoala, the unstoppable Super Falcons forward, continued her dominance by clinching a record-extending sixth CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. She saw off competition from Thembi Kgatlana and Barbara Banda to further cement her legacy as the most successful women’s footballer in Africa.

The night was a resounding success for Nigeria, with the Super Falcons also claiming the Women’s Team of the Year award. Additionally, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was named Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

Meanwhile, Morocco and former Sevilla goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou was named the Men’s Best Goalkeeper of the Year for 2023.
