PDP Demands Immediate Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Condemns Akpabio’s Senate Leadership
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, to prepare for an immediate return to her legislative duties in the Senate.
In a statement obtained by PulseNets, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, strongly condemned what it described as a deliberate move by the Clerk of the National Assembly to obstruct Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s resumption. The obstruction, learnt by PulseNets, follows a six-month suspension earlier slammed on her by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to the opposition party, this latest development is a calculated political strategy engineered by the Akpabio-led All Progressives Congress, APC Senate leadership, to silence the voice of the people of Kogi Central and deny them representation at Nigeria’s highest legislative chamber.
PulseNets learnt from the statement that the PDP considers the action not only unconstitutional but also a direct affront to democratic principles.
The party noted: “This is a calculated attempt by the APC-controlled Senate leadership to abridge the right of representation of the good people of Kogi Central and to deny them a legitimate voice in the National Assembly.”
The PDP further charged global stakeholders to intervene, stressing that the move threatens Nigeria’s democracy. The statement added: “We call on the international community, democracy institutions, rights advocacy organizations and all development partners to rise in condemnation of this renewed attack on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.”
Reiterating its position, the party insisted that nothing short of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s full reinstatement would be acceptable. PulseNets reports that the PDP demanded immediate compliance from the Senate leadership, stressing: “The Senate must ensure that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan resumes without hindrance and continues her duties as a duly elected lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
