Amarata Boils: Police Officer Allegedly Killed as Residents Report Indiscriminate Shooting
Yenagoa – Panic has engulfed Amarata after a police officer was allegedly killed on Tuesday, triggering what residents described as indiscriminate shootings and raids by security operatives. PulseNets learnt that at least one person has already been confirmed dead as the violence spread across the Yenagoa community.
A female student of the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) told PulseNets about her terrifying ordeal. According to her, policemen fired several shots at her vehicle before one of them pointed a gun directly at her head.
“They wanted to shoot me, but one of them stopped the other, saying, ‘leave na, na small girl,’” she recounted, still shaken. She explained that the timely intervention of that officer was the only reason she survived.
Residents who spoke to PulseNets reported that entire families have been forced to abandon their homes for safety. One eyewitness described Amarata as “boiling ground,” warning that unless authorities intervene quickly, the situation could spiral into more casualties.
This latest outbreak of violence, PulseNets reported, adds to a disturbing pattern in Yenagoa, particularly in Amarata, where frequent shootings and killings have continued to unsettle residents over the past months.
