Tinubu Moves to Cushion Fuel Price Hike as Nigerians Face Rising Cost of Living
President of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the mounting strain caused by rising fuel prices on Nigerians and has begun rolling out measures to ease the pressure on citizens.
This development was contained in a statement obtained by PulseNets, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Jigawa State Governor, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, and made available to the press.
PulseNets learnt that the governor made this known during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Dutse, where he addressed residents shortly after receiving the Emir of Dutse alongside other traditional rulers during the Hawan Bariki Durbar on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, the governor told PulseNets that the president is deeply concerned about the situation and has already initiated steps aimed at cushioning the impact, particularly by targeting transportation costs nationwide.
He explained that the recent surge in petroleum prices, which has been linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, has intensified economic pressure on Nigerians, especially in the areas of transportation and overall cost of living.
The governor, however, reassured citizens that the Federal Government is not indifferent to the hardship, noting that President Tinubu has issued directives for immediate interventions.
“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on our people and has already begun taking measures to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,” Namadi said.
He further disclosed that part of the government’s response would involve introducing alternative strategies to reduce transportation costs, which have significantly increased following the hike in fuel prices.
PulseNets reported that the Jigawa State Government also plans to align with federal initiatives by rolling out policies and support programmes designed to ease the financial strain on residents.

Namadi emphasised that although the current economic climate remains challenging, coordinated interventions by both federal and state governments are expected to deliver relief and stabilise living conditions in the near term.
The development comes amid widespread public concern over the persistent rise in fuel prices and its ripple effects on transportation, food costs, and other essential services across Nigeria.
