Wike PDP NEC Fixes March 28–29, 2026 for National Convention in Abuja
The Nyesom Wike-backed National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for the party’s National Convention, scheduled to hold in Abuja.
PulseNets learnt that the decision was reached on Monday during the 105th NEC meeting of the opposition party, held in the nation’s capital.
In a communiqué jointly signed by Abdulrahman Muhammed, National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, and Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the committee, the NEC said the resolutions followed far-reaching deliberations on the party’s internal situation, Nigeria’s evolving political climate, recent court rulings, and preparations for upcoming internal exercises.
According to the statement obtained by PulseNets, the NEC unanimously reconfirmed, ratified, and reaffirmed all decisions earlier taken at the Emergency 104th NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025. It stressed that every action flowing from those resolutions remains valid, lawful, and fully enforceable.
The committee further restated its firm commitment to the rule of law and judicial independence, describing both as non-negotiable pillars of constitutional democracy.
PulseNets reported that the NEC welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the PDP’s leadership structure and administrative framework. The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to formally recognize the duly constituted National Caretaker Committee of the party.
At the meeting, the NEC formally approved March 28 and 29, 2026, as the official dates for the PDP National Convention, where members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and other statutory party organs will be elected.
The NEC also affirmed the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, alongside affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the successful conduct of the National Convention and subsequent state and zonal congresses.
In a directive told to PulseNets, the NEC mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate all convention sub-committees and begin comprehensive logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations to ensure what it described as a transparent, inclusive, and credible convention process.
Calling for internal cohesion, discipline, and loyalty, the NEC urged PDP members across all levels to refrain from actions capable of weakening party unity, while placing the collective interest of the party above individual ambitions.
The committee reiterated the PDP’s resolve to rebuild a strong, disciplined, democratic, and electorally competitive party, expressing confidence that the outcomes of the 105th NEC meeting would deepen internal democracy, stabilise party structures, and reposition the PDP ahead of future elections.
Party stakeholders, supporters, and members within Nigeria and the diaspora were also encouraged to remain committed, law-abiding, and aligned with the founding ideals of the PDP.
